Best Places to Celebrate the 4th of July in Mexico in 2027
Mexico doesn't celebrate the 4th of July, but its resorts fill with Americans. Five places for the 2027 long weekend and the resorts to book in each.

While July 4 isn't a public holiday in Mexico, that doesn't mean the day goes unmarked. It's celebrated mostly in places with a lot of American visitors or residents. The American Society of Mexico, founded in 1942, has a long tradition of a July 4 picnic in Mexico City. In 2022 it ran a daylong fair with the American School Foundation and the U.S. Embassy that drew more than 1,000 people. In Los Cabos, resorts have hosted holiday barbecues, live music and fireworks.
The five places below come up again and again in 4th of July travel coverage and in recent resort rankings from U.S. News & World Report, Travel + Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler. For each one we've named the resorts that appear across several of those sources. None of them had published 4th of July plans for 2027 by October 2026, so any event mentioned below is one a resort has held before.
1. Punta Mita and the Riviera Nayarit
Punta Mita is a private peninsula at the northern tip of Banderas Bay, 45 to 60 minutes by car from Puerto Vallarta International Airport. It faces the Pacific, so the Atlantic sargassum that reaches Mexico's Caribbean coast in summer doesn't get here. July falls in Puerto Vallarta's rainy season, which runs from mid-June to mid-October: the average July high is 90°F, the city gets about 13 inches of rain over the month, and the sea averages about 84°F.
Neither Four Seasons resort on the peninsula had published 4th of July programming by October 2026, so plan on beaches and golf at Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, or a wellness weekend at Naviva, instead of a set party.
Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita: families, golf and swimmable beaches
Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita opened in 1999. It has 177 rooms and suites, plus 22 villas, seven residences and three beach homes, on 52 acres inside the 1,500-acre private Punta Mita community. Its two beaches, Manzanillas and Cuevas, are both swimmable.
Golfers get two Jack Nicklaus courses, Pacífico and Bahía. Pacífico's optional 3B hole, the Tail of the Whale, plays to a natural island green that's only open at low tide. Children aged five to 12 can join the complimentary Kids For All Seasons club, teenagers have their own space, The Container, and Babies For All Seasons covers newborns up to 18 months. In 2026 the resort held a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating for the tenth year in a row, along with the AAA Five Diamond rating and two Michelin Keys.
Best for: families, multi-generational groups and golfers.
Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort: adults-only and all-inclusive
Naviva is a separate resort on the same peninsula: 15 tented bungalows on 48 acres of forest, open since December 2022, with no more than 30 guests at a time. It's adults-only, and every bungalow has its own plunge pool. The all-inclusive rate covers all meals and drinks, many premium wines and spirits included, daily experiences and one 90-minute spa journey per guest per stay.
The programming centers on wellness. A curandero leads temazcal ceremonies in Naviva's House of Heat, and the schedule includes nocturnal forest bathing, yoga and treatments in two spa pods. La Solana, Naviva's own beach, is a rocky stretch of about 575 feet that suits a walk better than a swim, so guests who want to swim use the beaches at Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, five minutes away. Condé Nast Traveler put Naviva on its 2023 Hot List and its 2026 Gold List.
Best for: couples who want a quiet, all-inclusive long weekend built around wellness.
2. Los Cabos
Los Cabos, at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, is the driest place on this list in July. Cabo San Lucas averages a high of 94°F and about 0.3 inches of rain for the month, and the sea averages around 78°F. Some beaches here have rough surf, rip currents and undertows, so it's worth checking that your resort's beach is safe for swimming before you book.
Los Cabos also has the clearest record of 4th of July events. In 2023 the Los Cabos tourism board listed resort barbecues at Esperanza and Chileno Bay, along with fireworks and live music at Hacienda del Mar, and Hilton Los Cabos held a beachside barbecue with fireworks in 2026.
Esperanza, Auberge Collection
Esperanza sits on the Punta Ballena bluffs above the Sea of Cortez, between two coves, with fewer than 60 casitas and suites. It's a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star resort with two Michelin Keys, and U.S. News & World Report ranked it the No. 1 hotel in Mexico for 2026. It has hosted a 4th of July barbecue, and its Tortuguitas Kids Club makes it workable for families as well as couples.
Best for: couples and small families who want a small resort above the water.
Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Auberge Collection
Chileno Bay is on a protected cove between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, with a reef for snorkeling and one of the few swimmable beaches on this stretch of coast. Rooms, suites and villas sit on 22 acres, and children have the Pescaditos Kids Club. The resort's 2023 Independence Day beach barbecue came with live music and fireworks. U.S. News ranked it the No. 3 hotel in Mexico for 2026.
Best for: families who want a beach they can swim from.
3. Playa Mujeres, north of Cancún
Playa Mujeres is a resort strip north of Cancún's Hotel Zone, facing Isla Mujeres across the bay. Cancún averages a July high of 93°F and about 4.4 inches of rain. The Caribbean coast's summer trade-offs are sargassum, which lands heaviest in late spring and summer and set a collection record in Quintana Roo in 2026, and the Atlantic hurricane season, which starts June 1. Quintana Roo also charges foreign visitors a state tourist tax, Visitax, paid online.
Excellence Playa Mujeres
Excellence Playa Mujeres is an adults-only, all-inclusive resort for guests 18 and over, with 11 restaurants and seven pools. It made Condé Nast Traveler's 2025 Readers' Choice list of the top resorts in Eastern Mexico.
Best for: couples who want a large all-inclusive with lots of dining choice.
4. Mayakoba, Riviera Maya
Mayakoba is a gated resort community of lagoons and mangrove forest just north of Playa del Carmen. It shares the Caribbean's July weather and sargassum season with Playa Mujeres, and the same Visitax applies.
Rosewood Mayakoba
Rosewood Mayakoba has 129 suites, each with its own plunge pool, plus a set of villas, spread along the beach and the lagoons. The El Camaleón golf course winds through the same community. It isn't all-inclusive, which suits travelers who'd like to eat around the Riviera Maya, and it made Condé Nast Traveler's 2025 Readers' Choice list of the top resorts in Eastern Mexico.
Best for: families and couples who want privacy and room to spread out on the Caribbean.
5. San Miguel de Allende
San Miguel de Allende is the one inland pick: a colonial town in the state of Guanajuato at about 6,200 feet, with a historic center listed by UNESCO in 2008. It has a large community of foreign residents, many of them American. July is its wettest month, with about 5.8 inches of rain, but at that altitude the average high is 81°F and nights cool to the mid-50s.
Rosewood San Miguel de Allende
Rosewood San Miguel de Allende has 67 rooms and suites in the historic center, three pools, a spa and Luna, a rooftop tapas bar that looks out over the town. It holds two Michelin Keys and welcomes children.
Best for: travelers who'd rather have cool evenings and a walkable town than a beach.

Planning a 4th of July 2027 trip to Mexico
The federal holiday is observed on Monday, July 5, 2027, so the long weekend runs from Saturday, July 3, to Monday, July 5.
U.S. citizens flying to Mexico need a passport book, because the passport card isn't valid for international air travel.
Several Mexican airports, including Cancún, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta and Mexico City, have self-service immigration gates that print a ticket with a QR code for a digital entry permit (FMM). Keep both for the whole trip, because they may be asked for when you leave.
Quintana Roo's Visitax applies to stays in Cancún, Playa Mujeres and the Riviera Maya, including for children.
The Eastern Pacific hurricane season starts May 15 and the Atlantic season starts June 1. Eastern Pacific storms are common from late June, but both seasons usually peak between mid-August and October.
